Camps Bay – Fun in the Sun

Camps Bay is all about soft, sandy beaches, sunsets, amazing restaurants and drinks with friends. No wonders it is one of Cape Town’s most popular holiday destinations, loved by locals and foreigners alike. When it comes to playtime there is just so much to do, here is just some of the fun to be had…

Beaches everywhere

The main beach in Camps Bay eared itself a blue flag and attracts sun-worshipers from Cape Town and overseas. The long stretch of soft, even sand is perfect for beach volleyball, soccer and various other sports. Palm trees compliment the white sand and the Twelve Apostles create the perfect holiday setting. The green, grassy area behind the palms is a popular spot for braais (barbeques) overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
If Camps Bay gets to crowded you can always try one of the Clifton beaches nearby. The boulders divide the soft, white sand into 4 pristine sunbathing spots. Even though the water on this area is rather on the cold side the Cliftons and Camps Bay are also popular spots for water sports such as surfing. Despite the cold, the clean and calm water makes Camps Bay an excellent place to swim. If you get too cold the summer sun will warm you up in no time.

Sundowners Galore

Sunsets in Camps Bay are a sight to behold. The many posh restaurants and bars are perfect sundowner-spots. During weekends the Camps Bay Boulevard, shaded by tall palm trees, is a place to see and be seen. Here beautiful people (and those who think they are) sip cocktails or cappuccinos, well protected by large designer sunglasses.

Hiking above Camps Bay

Bird’s eye views of Clifton and Camps Bay can be had on some fairly easy hiking trails in close proximity. The Pipe Track follows water pipes from Victorian times. Start on the saddle between the cable station and Lion’s Head and follow the path for a pleasant walk and great views.
Another popular hike will take you up Lion’s Head. From the parking lot you can circle up the mountain in about an hour. This hike is particularly popular on full-moon nights, when you can see the sun set and the moon rise over the mother city.

Where to Stay

The Nelson Villa offers idyllic holiday accommodation right on the water’s edge. Three bedrooms, TV and dining area as well as an outdoor Jacuzzi give you everything you need to enjoy your holiday in Cape Town.
