The Best Golf Courses in the Cape

South Africa is one of the world’s prime golfing destinations. You will find challenging courses in the most stunning natural settings all over this beautiful country. The Western Cape in particular has world class golfing, but remember to look beyond the green.  The area produces famous wines and host some top class restaurants that will pamper your taste buds. Sublime mountain views and a coast that alternates between rocky boulders and sandy beaches round off a golfing holiday that you will never forget.

Fancourt Golf Club – George

The Fancourt Hotel hosts three of Africa’s top courses. Montagu, Outeniqua and The Links were all designed by Gary Player and provide a blissful experience for members and hotel guests. Even though all three are highly rated championship courses, it is the youngest of them that carries the most prestige. The Links is rated one of the top 100 golf courses outside the US by Golf Digest. It hosted the historic tie between Tiger Woods and Ernie Els at the Presidents Cup in 2003.Inspired by the classic golf courses of Ireland and Scotland this is a must-play course for any serious golfer.

Arabella Golf Club – Kleinmond

Arabella is disputably the best golf course in the Western Cape. Peter Matkovich designed this course on the banks of the beautiful Bot River Lagoon with the Kogelberg mountain range providing a stunning background. The lagoon not only makes for a tranquil setting, but also hosts some amazing birdlife. The Arabella Golf Club hosts the annual Nelson Mandela Invitational Charity Golf Tournament attracting the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Ernie Els and many celebrities.

Steenberg Golf Club

If you enjoy the city life of Cape Town there is excellent golfing right on your doorstep. Steenberg Golf Club is probably the finest course in the Mother City. Peter Matkovich designed a challenging course on the foot of the Table Mountain range. The championship course features water hazards, large bunkers and the largest green in South Africa.
