The Dunes of the Namib Desert
Sossusvlei
The majestic red dunes of Sossusvlei are one of Namibia’s most popular tourist attractions. This part of the Namib Desert boasts some of the oldest and tallest dunes in the world. Especially at dawn the rusty dunes, blue skies and dark long shadows produce rich colours, that will have photographers drooling onto their lenses.
The unique colour of these dunes is actually produced by traces of iron oxidizing. The area is also home to various geckos, beetles, the puff adder. If you’re lucky you might even get you personal version of an oryx posing in front of the towering red dunes and blue skies.
Dune 45
If you want to experience the most amazing images, try and get to the top of Dune 45 for sunrise. 150 metres above the plain, this is an experience you won’t get anywhere else in the world.
Sesriem Canyon
Carved by the Tsauchab River the Sesriem Canyon has one permanent waterhole, used by many animals. The canyon is 30m deep and a kilometre long. Only 4 kilometres south of Sesriem a hike through the canyon should definitely be on your list.
