Itinerary
Day 1, Windhoek to Etosha: Leaving Windhoek at noon we arrive outside the gates of Etosha before sunset, where we enjoy dinner and spend the night.
Day 2, Etosha National Park: An early start allows us to view the more active wildlife before the mid-day heat sets in. As the sun rises to its highest point we rest at Halali Camp where you can enjoy a swim in the pool while your guide prepares lunch. In the afternoon we explore the vast 4500km² Etosha Salt Pan and see more game en-route.
Day 3, Etosha to Windhoek: Our morning game drive is focussed on the predators such as lion, leopard and hyena. We have lunch en-route to Windhoek, where we will arrive in the late afternoon and spend the night at Chameleon Guest House.
Day 4, Sesriem: After an early start we head south west into the Eros Mountains. You also pass over part of the Naukluft Mountains, which are of particular interest for the ancient geological history of this part of the country. We will then travel down the Remhoogte Pass and into the open plains where we will spend the night at the little settlement called solitaire.
Day 5, Sesriem and Sossusvlei: The day will start early in order to catch the first raise of sun as the move over the Sossusvlei dunes. We will drive through the heart of the dune country and spend the morning exploring Dune 45. We will also have a chance to see Gemsbok and Ostrich which are amazing desert animals who have adapted to the harsh climate. The afternoon will be spent in the cooler shade of Sesriem. In the late afternoon we will take a short excursion to Sesriem Canyon. We will spend the evening under the stars with dinner prepared by your guides on an open fire.
Day 6, Lüderitz: Moving south we will travel from the dunes to the the Namib Rand Nature Reserve. The scenery and landscape will change several time as we travel south and then west to the coast of Lüderitz.
Day 7, Kolmanskop Fish River Canyon: Kolmanskop is the little ghost town 20km from Lüderitz. It was built in the 1920′s during the diamond rush, but was abandon later when bigger diamonds were found elsewhere. It is now a desert town with sand moving over the town and into the houses.
We later move on toward Aus through the “forbidden zone” due to the diamonds that were mind here. You will also have a chance to see the unique wild horses. From Aus we leave for Fish River Canyon and to the famous view point.
Day 8, Fish River Canyon and Mesosaurs Fossil Camp: Leaving Fish River we head towards Keetmanshoop. This is a little town founded in 1860 by the Rhenish Mission Society. The town has many of the original German buildings who trekked across the Orange River to trade. Later we visit the Mesosaurus Fossil site and Quiver Tree Dolerite park. The fossil site is one of the most spectacular examples of drifting continents. The Quiver Tree forest is another amazing living fossil with some 5000 specimens packed into the area.
Day 9, Mesosaurus Fossil Camp – Kalahari Bagatelle Reserve: Leaving the south we make our way north west travelling through the start of the Kalahari Desert which lies on the eastern side of Namibia. This area is very dry and is covered by many km of dunes which is the origin of the dunes in Sossusvlei. The Kalahari dune sands are swept with the orange rive to the mouth of the ocean near Lüderitz where is it later swept by the currents into the mainland at Sossusvlei creating the red dunes. Tonight we will camp at Bagatelle Game Ranch. Is is a Cheetah conservation fund. These Cheetahs are unfortunately not able to return to the wild. The aim of the fund is to ensure that these Cheetahs have the best quality of live without being able to return to the wild.
Day 10, Windhoek: We will embark on a early morning Nature Drive Since is a great opportunity to see the local wildlife and bird life before we end back to Windhoek via Rehoboth.
