If you enjoy snowboarding, surfing and the like you should give this a try. Slap some polish on to an old snowboard and take the steep drop down the dune. There is even a ramp for those brave enough and the tour organizers capture all you stunts on film so you can show off back home.

If you don’t have any experience at board-sports consider the lie-down options, which is in no way less exiting. Strap on your helmet and let gravity accelerate you to 60km/h on a piece of cardboard. The sand is fairly soft so if you do wipe-out just make sure you close your eyes. The bad news is there aren’t any lifts around here so getting up the dunes involves a fair amount of exercise. It’s worth it though and not only because your guides are waiting with a cold beer and sandwiches when you’re done.

Skydiving

Is jumping out of an aeroplane on your bucket-list? You won’t find may places better than Swakopmund to cross it off. If letting yourself fall out of a plane that barely fits four people isn’t enough of a thrill, a bird’s-eye-view of Namibia’s coastal desert hast to be one of the most beautiful things you will ever see. The black iron patterns on the rusty ancient dunes just seem to change colour as the white lines of the surf seem to continue endlessly towards the horizon.

It’s easiest to go for a tandem jump. The competent instructors make you feel very secure at all times. Basically all you need to do is spread your arms tuck in your legs and enjoy the ride.

Quad-Biking

There’s loads of open space and steep drops down the dunes just have to be fun on 4WD quad bike. Despite all the adrenaline the guides make sure safety is guaranteed and no damage is done to the fauna and flora of the desert.
